We work with gifted girls aged 16 and older, who have high score on IQ and achievement tests. These girls think and learn differently than others. Characteristics of these girls include one or more of the following:
An advanced ability to quickly absorb and process information,
Artistic talents in creative and visual drawing and composition, software, digital modeling, commercial arts and graphic design,
- Musical natural and genetics talents in music, singing, playing instruments, and composing. perfect pitch, excellent memory, and creativity,
- Extraordinary natural appearance and beauty,
- An intense need for constant mental stimulation,
- A need to understand the world, to see logic and fairness in it,
- An ability to connect a wide range of ideas and find commonalities between them,
- An insatiable curiosity; endless questions, clarifications, and an understanding of nuances,
- An inborn sensitivity and understanding of life,
- A need to explore certain topics in greater depth,
- A sense of frustration with mundane or repetitive processes.
Gifted girls may also:
- Demonstrate different or unusual interests compared to their same age peers,
- Achieve developmental milestones earlier and faster,
- Begin reading early or understand mathematical concepts at a very early age,
- Have high expectations of themselves and others,
- Exhibit asynchronous development, which may manifest itself in uneven intellectual, physical, and emotional development.
Often, gifted girls do not receive the level of education they need and, consequently, do not receive an appropriately challenging education. Research shows that this can lead to poor academic performance or even dropping out of school.
